How Making Your Bed Helps Your Productivity

In a 2014 commencement speech at University of Texas at Austin, Admiral McRaven said:

“If you make your bed every morning you will have accomplished the first task of the day. It will give you a small sense of pride and it will encourage you to do another task and another and another.
By the end of the day, that one task completed will have turned into many tasks completed. Making your bed will also reinforce the fact that little things in life matter.”

Anywho.  This brings me to the HEALTH HACK: Make Your Bed Each Morning

Powerful words, love. The simple task of making your bed first thing in the morning also has been linked to increased productivity, lowering one's stress level and improving one's mood as well as better quality of sleep.

It's a small task. Why not try... for a week to see how making your bed FIRST thing in the morning helps you! You in?  If you want to watch the video... here you go!

MY TIPS:

  • Reduce the throw pillows to maybe three - seriously.  This will help reduce clutter + time and maybe even a wee bit of stress.
  • Make it a habit by using a certain CUE... Maybe it's setting a reminder on your phone?  Maybe it's putting your throw pillows on top of your day planner?  So you would have to move the pillows to see your day's itinerary.  Whatever it is for you, set a cue to make this a habit... for me, it's a HABIT now because my mom instilled it in me growing up.  Before turning off my bedroom lights, I had to make sure my bed was made... it worked for me, maybe that's your cue.

There's only two currencies in life:  time and energy. We may not be able to generate more time, but you certainly can generate more energy.  Let me show you how!

Note

The quote, "A jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one", is one of my favorites as it celebrates the ability to be passionate about more than one thing.  A few of my passions shared on this website include: business strategy, biohacks, books and badsass endurance events.
