[HACKS] WAYS TO INCREASE YOUR ENERGY WHILE TRAVELING

biohacks wellness

As an introvert, this may come to a shock to some but one of my favorite things… is attending a conference.

I know, who am I and what have I done with Amber?

There’s just something about being in a room with folks who all have similar interests whether that’s a veterinary conference to dive deep into the latest techniques or a mastermind retreat where you are brainstorming ideas for your upcoming launch.

I love it ALL and try to attend a conference at least once a year and BEST if it's once every 3-4 months pending hubster’s work schedule as well as, you know, LIFE as a mom.

Anywho.

One thing I noticed was how with each event I attended, my body would react in slightly unhappy ways… my gut would feel “off”, my sleep was a wee bit non-existent and my energy level was highly dependent on caffeine.

It wasn’t until I took a step back and focused on my habits WHILE I traveled, that I learned how to improve them.

Here are a few of my NOW hacks I follow which keeps my gut in check, my sleep habits on point and my energy RAISED!

TRAVEL HACK #1:   FASTING

Yep.  You read this correctly… I fast (and have water only).   It’s not ridiculously long but it is planned out so that I am fasting for a full 24hrs while I am traveling and BREAKING my fast with my first meal at the new destination.

It would look something like this:

  • Thursday @ 5:30pm  Dinner with the family!
  • Friday @ 6am  Head out for morning flight -- travel all day-- land and get to hotel
  • Friday @ 5:30pm  Break “fast” with dinner

I know some folks who are keen about snacking throughout the day while traveling and even bring snacks on board.  Now, I will bring snacks with me in case of an emergency; however, I noticed if I just stuck to water during this fast and while traveling… my gut is happier.  And when my gut is happier, sleep is better, brain is more focused and energy is through the roof.

TRAVEL HACK #2:  GROUNDING

This hack may sound a little woo woo for some people, however, it helps my well-being to be “grounded” to the new location.  What does this mean exactly? Well, when I arrive from the airport to the hotel… I will check-in then typically walk out the lobby and into lawn out front.

Spending a few minutes outside barefoot in the grass… it’s nothing fancy and typically at this time, I am calling the hubster to let him know I arrived to my destination and checking in to the hotel.

TRAVEL HACK #3:  MOVEMENT

Getting some movement in before I have my meal helps me tremendously.  I typically do not do anything strenuous just maybe go for a walk, do some yoga in the hotel room or even burst out a 10 minute workout in the stairway.  You can get pretty creative! Plus, nowadays most hotels will provide you with light weights, kettlebells and even yoga mats in your hotel room per request.

The reason for this is most of the time during traveling, I have been stagnant… in a car, then a plane, on a shuttle and now finally going to sit down (again) for dinner.  My body needs to move. I need to get the blood flowing and the lymph moving as well.

There you go... now, some other hacks I use while traveling such as bringing my own blender to whip up smoothies in my hotel room and traveling with a sleep kit; however, these are my three hacks help me start my travels off right by keeping my energy levels UP and making my gut stay happy.

We all have travel hacks which keep us happy… our little miss loves a certain blanket and my hubster needs a certain pair of sunglasses as well as beef jerky on hand at all times.

I’m curious if YOU have any travel routines or hacks which make life easier for you- would love to hear.  Cause the more you know, the more you can grow.

There's only two currencies in life:  time and energy. We may not be able to generate more time, but you certainly can generate more energy.  Let me show you how!

Note

The quote, "A jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one", is one of my favorites as it celebrates the ability to be passionate about more than one thing.  A few of my passions shared on this website include: business strategy, biohacks, books and badsass endurance events.
